Gain accredited skills and get ahead of the competition with the National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies

2 Jun, 2011

What is the National Skills Academy?
The National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies is a new nationwide network of accredited training provision for low carbon and renewable skills. Across the country, leading \\\'hub\\\' colleges are working in partnership with other training providers to offer a range of environmental qualifications that have been approved by SummitSkills, the Sector Skills Council for building services engineering.

What qualifications are on offer?
The qualifications currently available via the Skills Academy have been designed to meet the requirements of the forthcoming European Directive. There are options in either installation, or installation and maintenance in the following technologies:

Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems
Small Scale Photovoltaic Systems
Heat Pump Systems
Water Harvesting and Recycling Systems

There\\\'s also a Level 3 award in understanding the fundamental principles and requirements of environmental technology systems, which is embedded into all the technical awards but can also be taken as a stand-alone unit, ideal for managers and non-technical staff who might have to sell or describe new technologies to customers. Additional qualifications in other technologies such as biomass and CHP are being developed and will be available soon. Qualifications at graduate and post-graduate level will also be available in the future.

Why use the Academy?
Training is industry-recognised, accredited and linked to the QCF, a national qualification framework which allows your staff\\\'s skills to be formally recognised. All training will be recorded on the Skills Academy database, accessible by the public, so potential customers can see you are properly qualified to carry out environmental technology work. Skills Academy training will be directly linked to Microgeneration Certification Scheme accreditation - only MCS-accredited installers can be used by customers if they want to access Feed-in-Tariff and other funding.

Skills Academy training providers deliver approved qualifications using the latest facilities, products, technology and industry knowledge.

What should I do next?
Consider what skills you might need in which technologies and speak to your local Skills Academy hub to find out more about the training and qualifications available in your area. Call 08450 580 551 for more information on your nearest hub.

Get the right skills for the low carbon future - you can\\\'t afford not to!
